BLUE GOOSE
Enclave of Blues, Live Music and Music Business
Location
Blue Goose: Enclave of Blues, Live Music and Music Business, is a commercial and residential development near downtown Shreveport, Louisiana. It is bounded by Baker Street and Princess Park to the east, the KCS Railroad track to the north, Fairfield Avenue to the south, and Sam Fertita Drive to the west. This area is where notable blues artists lived and worked in the 1920s and 30s. The development seeks to restore numerous living quarters and business that will help cultivate the African-American blues movement.
Residential Development
"Artist Row"
The residences will be either restored as shotgun houses relocated to the site or new structures designed to resemble the original shotgun style. The residences are to be congregated together as as to allow commercial development and to provide a pleasing and comfortable balance with green space.
Commercial Development
Priority commercial elements consist of re-establishing the "Blue Goose" which consists of a blues and barbeque venue, blues music museum, recording studio, soul-food restaurant, coffee and donut shop, soda fountain, pharmacy, barbershop, beauty shop, and a small grocery store. Secondary commercial elements consist of local artist shops, galleries, and working studios.
Aesthetic Character
The concept is to recreate, as practical and as current codes and city ordinances allow, the neighborhood as it functioned during the era mentioned above. The result should be a beautiful pedestrian-scale residential and commercial development designed to encourage private investment and development in the adjacent unused properties.
